Teeth Whitening

Whitening your teeth is a very simple procedure that can be completed in a short period of time. Two types of whitening are available at our office. The first option is an In-Office procedure that allows you to walk out of the office in about an hour with whiter teeth. The second type of whitening is a Take-Home method that allows the same results as our In Office method in as little as 1-2 weeks.

Professional Whitening Information:

Congratulations on your whiter, brighter smile! Below are some guidelines to help you maintain the look of your new smile.

  • For the first 24 to 48 hours after whitening, your teeth will be especially vulnerable to staining. For this reason, you should avoid tobacco, lipstick, and any food or beverage that would stain a white shirt.

Recommended Food & Beverages  Avoid These Foods & Beverages
Milk, Water, Clear Soda, White Wine
Bananas, Apples (no peel)
White Bread, Flour Tortillas, Oatmeal
White Rice, Baked Potato, Plain Pasta
Turkey, Chicken Breast
Coffee, Tea, Dark Sodas, Red Wine
Strawberries, Blueberries,
Soy Sauce, Mustard, Ketchup,
Red Sauces (Marinara, Tomato)
 A-1, BBQ Sauce

What to Expect
-It is normal to experience increased tooth sensitivity especially to cold for 1-3 days after the procedure.
-You may experience a sudden stinging sensation in the tooth known as a “zinger “. This is normal after whitening and will subside after a few days.
-Ibuprofen/Tylenol and sensitive toothpaste can help with any minor discomfort that you may experience.
-If you notice white gums, the bleach solution temporarily bleached the tissue, and it will return to normal in a day or so.
-Whitening procedures are not permanent, and teeth will gradually darken. You may need to do touch-up whitening to maintain your new shade.

When to Call the Office
-If you experience severe or prolonged sensitivity.

If you experience any problems after normal business hours, please call the office and  leave a message on the answering machine. Dr. Beyer will be paged and return your call.
